Résumé : An experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions in order to examine the effect of inflorescence pruning on drought responses of the cultivar AC102 (#Pachyrhizus ahipa# (Wedd.) Parodi). Four treatments involving plant with or without reproductive pruning and with and without water stress and the combination of the two factors were included in the experiment. Drought caused a decrease in stomatal conductance, photosynthesis and transpiration rates in both intact and pruned plants. However, whilst leaf-relative-water content (LRWC) was maintained in the pruned plants (P+D), a significant decrease was observed in the intact plants (I+D). The maintenance of LRWC in pruned plants may be due to mobilisation of water within the tuber and/or better redistribution of water from roots to leaves in the absence of pods. Inflorescence pruning improves the adaptation of this crop to drought conditions.
