Résumé : The modern evolution of european cereal production is characterized by the use of intensive production systems. However, the objectives of the Common Agricultural Policies have lately changed due, mainly, to budgetary constraints and to environmental pollution. This paper deals with a methodology to evaluate the possible success of the set-aside policy and the use of less intensive production systems, in this case for the french region of La Beauce. The methodology is a farm level analysis using a linear programming model. The innovation of this approach is that the activites are defined by the way of a plant growth simulation model which allows us to dertermine correctly the input-output relationships, not only for the actual activities but also for the alternative ones not yet employed in the region. The results obtained for La Beauce region show the stability of the production systems and the difficulties to induce less intensive production systems.
