Abstract : Some original forms of collective land tenure experience have emerged from the process of redistribution of some indigenous land to Kanak communities in New Caledonia. These systems aim to develop a new balance between traditional Kanak customary land management methods and legal mechanisms enabling the Melanesian groups to get a foothold in the dominant market economy model.
