Abstract : A morphometric study has been conducted on 26 date-palm cultivars (Phoenix dactylifera L.). It comprises a detailed description of vegetative system (26 criteria). The data analyzed using multidimensional statistical methods, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and hierarchical ascendant, Unweighted Pair-Group Method Arithmetic average (UPGMA). The results reflected a great morphological variation between cultivars. This study permitted the definition of simple criteria for cultivar identification before the fruiting period. Furthermore, it highlighted a strong ¿resemblance¿ and consequently a possible relationship between some cultivar groups, especially between those selected for resistance to Bayoud disease.
