Titre anglais : Solar radiation during early development stages affects leaf area in sunflower

Résumé : Growth of successive leaves of sunflower occurs at different dates according to their nodal position along the stem. Consequently, at a given date, the developmental stages of a leaf depends on its nodal position. The objective of this work was to analyse the effect of a transitory light deficit on growth and final leaf area, as a function of the leaf developmental stage during the constraint. Two experiments, one in the field and the other in a greenhouse, were conducted without water or nutritional limitations. Artificial shadings were applied at the beginning of reproductive development. Light deficit affected leaf growth rate only during the exponential phase. Final leaf area was only reduced when stress began before and ended after the limit between exponential and non-exponential growth phases. This response was quantitative: the lesser the light amount during the sensitive period, the smaller the final leaf area.
