Résumé : Fonio is the oldest cereal cultivated in West Africa. Fonio, regarded as a minor cereal for a long time, is met these days with a renewed interest in the urban areas. The extremely small size of the grain (1mm) makes processing fonio a difficult and time-consuming task for women. A regional project, financed by CFC, was initiated that focuses on "Improving post-harvest technologies". The project carried out several technical studies: adaptation of a thresher and development of a dehuller and cleaning equipment. These equipment installed in Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea have already assisted the users in processing tons of fonio. The assistance of the local manufacturers is also important to ensure that the materials developed can be constructed locally. These current actions should make it possible to develop the mechanisation of processing fonio and thus contribute to the revival of this neglected cereal.
