Résumé : The purpose of this mission, which was undertaken jointly with Gérard Fourny, a coffee technologist, Fabrice Pinard, a coffee agroforestry specialist, and Denis Depommier, CIRAD Regional Director for Southern and East Africa, was to meet the coffee R&D partners in three countries (Kenya., Rwanda and Uganda) to discuss possibilities of developing CIRAD collaboration, particularly on coffee quality matters. The Ugandan coffee supply chain is seeking to obtain added value for its production; its research is well organized (NARO and CORI) but does not possess skills in the area of quality. The union of coffee growers has requested our support for a project to reconvert part of the robusta supply chain to wet processing. The choice of geographical location for G. Fourny's assignment will be based on exchanges to come. That choice will take into account the commitment of the partners (letters of intent, definition of a joint work programme) and the positioning of that post with the regional mandate given to it. The final decision will take into account hosting possibilities, so that the researcher will be in a good partnership situation enabling him to finalize his mission as well as possible. Much remains to be done in the coming weeks to finalize that decision and organize the researcher's departure for September: submission of the mission report and declaration of interest letters, definition of programmes of mutual interest, drafting of applications for financial support from donors, and particularly from French Cooperation, signing of an MOU or general agreement, etc.
