Résumé : Trial GH ES 02 is confirming the good performance of Flanamat as a potassium fertilizer, but Sulpomag is also proving to be a good source of potassium. The unfertilized control palms are beginning to fall behind. The experiment also confirms that split fertilizer applications have no effect, and particularly confirms a very strong soil effect: all other things being equal, palms planted in valley bottoms on Temang type soil have much better yields than those on lower slopes on Kokofu type soil. Trial GH ES 03 is showing excellent average yields in the fourth year after planting on Temang soil in valley bottoms, with an advantage for Flanamat. However, Sulpomag is also proving to be a good source of potassium, and it will be necessary to wait for the accumulation of several seasons to class the fertilizers being tested. Supplemental NaCl applied in treatment S+ provided chlorine that has been taken up by the young palms, without severely depressing the K content or increasing the Na content. Sodium chloride in moderate amounts therefore proves to be an excellent source of chlorine, without the drawback of excess sodium. Trial GH ES 04 is showing that, for the moment, the soil-topography effect is largely dominating over the fertilizer rate effect: the young palms planted in the 3 replicates in valley bottoms are showing better growth than the young palms planted in the 3 replicates on a hillside. Experiment GH CP 03 is showing a positive subsoiling effect on the growth of young palms planted on a hilltop. In the Kwae Nucleus, 725 ha have been planted in 2008. The palms are in good nutritional condition, and Oryctes attacks are clearly in decline. At Okumaning, 121 ha have been planted in 2008. The palms are in good nutritional condition. Immediate eradication of Panicum regrowth, before it overcomes the Pueraria, should not be overlooked. In the Outgrowers, 65 ha have been planted in 2008. Sulpomag was partly' applied in 2008, unfortunately without following the schedule. Given that potassium nutrition has not been shown to be the main limiting factor, it is recommended that Sulpomag applications be reduced, alternating every other year. For fertilization in 2009, given the budgetary restrictions, GOPDC management has decided to apply fertilizers to young palms only (for the first 4 years). This is acceptable provided complete fertilizer schedules are applied, correctly making the conversions if a switch is made from Flanamat to Sulpomag or a compound fertilizer.
