Titre anglais : Use of endophytic bacteria for the biological control of the panamá disease (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense) in the cultivar Gros Michel (AAA)

Résumé : The objective of this study was to select endophytic bacteria for biological control of #Fusarium oxysporum# f. sp. #cubense# (FOC). Nine isolates of FOC collected in Turrialba and Talamanca, Costa Rica were used in this study. The effect of isolates of FOC was evaluated in a pathogenicity test under greenhouse conditions. The antagonistic activity of endophytic bacteria towards FOC under in vitro and in vivo conditions also was studied. Tissue culture plantlets of the cultivar Gros Michel were inoculated with endophytic bacteria before of FOC inoculation. The results of the pathogenicity test reported that eight isolates of FOC were pathogenic. The incubation period was similar between the isolates of FOC, symptoms of Fusarium wilt were observed after four weeks of pathogen inoculation and the disease development period was to six weeks. Under in vitro conditions, seventeen endophytic bacteria inhibited the radial growth of FOC in 65% in comparison with the control. The results of biocontrol assay indicated that, the incubation period was similar in plantlets protected with bacteria endophytic and the controls; symptoms of Fusarium wilt were observed after four weeks of pathogen inoculation. However, the results demonstrated that endophytic bacteria, particularly F7B13, delayed the disease development period in three and four weeks and the severity of external internal symptoms was reduced. In addition, plantlets protected with endophytic bacteria had a greater leaf number, pseudostem diameter, leaf length and weight of roots, leaves and plant in comparison with the control. More studies are needed in order to understand biocontrol activity as well as the plant growth promotion of the endophytic bacteria in this pathosystem.
