Résumé : Very few countries/territories in the Caribbean have formalized a list of priority diseases that is, diseases for which surveillance and/or control should be considered as a priority by the health authority. The Caribbean Animal Health Network (CaribVET) developed and release in 2012 a Disease prioritisation tool with a view to provide animal health interested parties and decisions makers of the Caribbean with a simple and user friendly tool to select and prioritize diseases methodologically, without requiring particular expertise or resources. Since the release of the tool, all CaribVET members were encouraged to list/update their priority diseases in using the tool, to better allocate resources where they are most useful and necessary. The tool was applied in several countries including in Jamaica which example shows how animal stakeholders can organize a diseases prioritization workshop and use results to improve their surveillance. The results obtained in the countries are expected to help the CaribVET Steering Committee (SC) update the regional priority diseases as well. In addition of contributing to the strengthening of epidemiosurveillance networks at the national level, the use of the CaribVET tool along with the development of an appropriate regional strategy aims at improving cost benefit ratio of regional activities conducted by CaribVET.
