Résumé (autre langue) : This thesis is a contribution to the understanding of the influence of Human on the dynamics of the genetic diversity of the almond tree Prunus dulcis in Lebanon, center of diversification of the species. This self-incompatible species has long been propagated by seed and then through grafting. The interdisciplinary approach followed uses population biology and anthropology. This study consists of three parts: In the first part, we sought to understand the processes of diversification of the cultivated almond tree based on archaeological and historical evidences and on the evolutionary biology of the almond tree in the Mediterranean Basin. Our results make it possible to distinguish the impact of the different periods of introduction of almond tree in Lebanon on the structure of the genetic diversity of young orchards. The second part assessed the cultural importance of the almond tree grown in Lebanon, and identified its intraspecific diversity as perceived by the informants. Our results show heterogeneity of informants' knowledge that allowed us to highlight a flexible local taxonomy. We have identified two flagship varieties. In the third part, we assessed the effect of the change in propagation practices on the structuring and dynamics of genetic diversity for these flagship varieties. Our results show that the genetic diversity of the traditional cultivar "Khachabi", propagated by seed, is geographically structured. On the other hand, the diversity of the second cultivar, "Halwani" introduced recently, is structured in two genetic pools in connection with the mixed practices of multiplication which includes sowing and grafting. This thesis shows how the evolution of practices interacts with the biology of the almond tree to shape its diversity. The almond tree has long been propagated sexually. The introduction of the graft propagation mode has been adopted gradually. Farmers thus maintained a certain genetic diversity through the occasional sexual multiplication of introduced cultivars. Late introductions, after grafting adoption, have reduced diversity in recent orchards. We illustrate how human knowledge, practices and decision-making at different spatial and temporal scales influence the structure and dynamics of plant diversity.
