Résumé : Deforestation and forest degradation is important to assess biodiversity, ecological process, and contributes to green-house gases emissions. Therefore, understanding and monitoring the distribution frequencies of treefall gaps is relevant to better understanding and predicting the carbon budget in response to global change and land use change. Recently, data from SPOT-5 satellite has been used in French Guiana to detect logging with an automated method and to monitor forest structure. Studies suggest that multi-temporal analysis provide useful, precise, and accurate information about deforestation. Here we use three datasets covering French Guiana at an intra-annual time scale: SPOT-5 HRG, LiDAR, and climate data. Our goal is to monitor tree fall gaps and to assess frequency of distribution of the events, and the size distribution of treefall gap. Results show that SPOT-5 subpixel level can provide important information to understand ecological process and carbon dynamics in French Guiana. (Texte intégral)
