Résumé : La culture attelée a été introduite en Afrique occidentale depuis très longtemps, mais pas aussi longtemps qu'elle ne le f.t dans les centres de recherche. La promotion de cet équipement agricole n'a vu le jour qu'après les Indépendances de 1960. L'objet de cette étude a consisté à montrer l'évolution de la culture attelée et de situer les perspectives de cette technologie dans les pays en développement d'Afrique francophone

Résumé (autre langue) : Animal-draft cultivation was introduced into Francophone Africa a long time ago. lt is generally agreed that it dates back to 1930. But in research stations and administrative sectors it started in 1926, and in Madagascar, as early as 1900. Therefore, it has been through a very long stage of introduction. lts promotion started more recently, generally after the countries became independent (1960-1962 ). This developed within schemes and projects initially for production and then for development. ln this respect, it differs greatly from the effort in the Anglophone countries. At first, the initiative was taken by the scheme rather than the farmer himself. Since credit, when available, and marketing of purely cash crops were organized, the farmer was very dependent on this operational environment.
