Résumé : To limit deforestation in inter-tropical areas it is necessary to define strategies and policies. However, the policy decision making process is no simple and the results are not always the expected. A way to have a better estimation of the impacts of policies results is to use a modelling approach. Nevertheless, there is a lack of theorical models of deforestation and most of empirical models of deforestation are faced with the difficulty of integrating natural resources into economic analysis, and with the lack of data concerning the interactions between ecological and economic processes. This paper presents a prototype of a dynamic analytical optimal control model to evaluate the deforestation process. the principal hypothesis is that there is a linkage between the deforestation and accumulation processes that takes place during time in an agricultural system. Thus the main physical and economic linkages between forest, livestock and capiatl are taken into consideration as well as their impacts on the accumulation process (feed-backs). Then, optimal control theory is used to define the optimal growth path and the evolution of the deforestation rate during time. the qualitative analysis of the results emphasizes the importance of developing theoretical approaches that include time dependant discount rates.
