Résumé : The current pest management recommendations become critical in Côte d'lvoire. Variations in major pest profiles such as Polyphagotarsonemu s latus (Banks) and Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner), have shown that the calendar treatments do not always relate closely to real conditions or actual pest pressure. In addition, since the removal of insecticide subsidies a few years ago, concerns are rising from farmers' awareness in using pesticides rationally. In this regard, innovative strategies were designed to optimize farmers' profits by using threshold treatments or to prevent bollworm resistance to pyrethroïds by using alternate insecticides within the calendar programme. Relevant approach strategies based on appropriate decision aids were implemented on farms and proved to enhance the effectiveness of pest control and minimize risks such as economic losses and selection of pest resistance.
