Résumé : CIRAD-FLHOR, FDGDEC and SPV conducted a survey to ascertain the presence of Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV) in Martinique between january 1997 and January 1998. The results confirmed the existence of the disease and provided a better understanding of the extent of the problem. Contamination was estimated to be 21% as at 1998. Commercial orchards were found to be less contaminated than trees found in backyard gardens. Age and type of citrus determined the infection rate. Trees between the ages of 20 -30 years and times were most infected; 34.33% and 33.38% respectively. Methods of propagation did not significantly affect the infection rate. Trees grafted on Citrus volcamericana showed no symptoms of the virus.
