Résumé : The French Institute, Pondicherry, has undertaken pedological investigations in order to complete the available information on forest ecosystems. These studies are synthesized by a 1-morpho-pedolog ical map at the scale of 1/1,000,000. The method used to establish this map, based on the system concept, is welt adapted to ecology. This work has brought to tight some ecological problems regarding soil-vegetation relationships in India on one hand, and on the other when we compare the situation in India with those prevailing in West Africa.
