Résumé : Soixante dix hectares de cocotiers hybrides Nain x Grand Ouest Africains (GOA) ont été plantés en 1973 au sud du Bénin sous une climatologie caractérisée par un déficit hydrique annuel moyen de 775 mm d'équivalent pluviométrique; par une irrigation d'appoint, ce déficit a été ramené à 350-410 mm (selon les lots de plantation). Les rendements moyens entre 8 et 16 ans ont été de 4,1-4,3 t de coprah/ha sur l'ensemble d'un essai de fertilisation, et de 4,7-4,9 t pour les objets recevant engrais azoté, phosphoré et potassique. Sur la plantation industrielle, le rendement moyen n'a atteint, pour la même période, que 3,4-3,6 t (moins bon suivi de la récolte, fumures et irrigations moins régulières et moins abondantes). L'essai a mis en évidence un niveau critique physiologique en K de 0,700 %, plus bas que ceux habituellement observés sur ce type de matériel végétal, ce qui nécessitera une recherche d'explication. Cette plantation aura montré l'intérêt des hybrides Nain x Grand sous climat très sec, même s'ils ne sont qu'insuffisamment irrigués. Il y a là, probablement, une voie intéressante de vulgarisation auprès des petits planteurs

Résumé (autre langue) : Seventy hectares of Dwart x West African Tall hybrid coconuts were planted in 1973 in south Benin in a climate characterized by a mean annual water deficit or 775 mm rainfall equivalent.
