Résumé : Les auteurs décrivent la méthode de fécondation artificielle du cocotier utilisée par les chercheurs de l'IRHO: récolte, conditionnement et stockage du pollen, isolement des inflorescences, pollinisation, récolte des noix. Le but de l'article n'est pas seulement de présenter un manuel pratique d'instructions à suivre, mais d'expliquer et de justifier les choix qui ont été faits (matériel et techniques). Les précautions prises et les contrôles de qualité peuvent paraître excessifs mais, l'expérience a amplement prouvé, que les pourcentages d'illégitimes s'élèvent rapidement dès que les techniques deviennent moins strictes. La présence dans une population d'un nombre, même très faible, d'illégitimes non identifiés peut avoir de fâcheuses conséquences pour la poursuite des travaux de recherche si les caractères de production de ces illégitimes amènent à les sélectionner comme géniteurs

Résumé (autre langue) : The authors describe the method of hand pollination of the coconut used by the research workers at I. R. H. O.: collection, conditioning and pollen storage, isolation of inflorescences, pollination, nut collection. This method, which is constantly being perfected, is based on the results of many trials and on more than 100 000 hand pollinations. The aim of the article is not only to present a practical instruction manual, but also to explain and justify the choices made (material and techniques). The precautions taken and the quality control may seem excessive, but, as the authors stress in their conclusion, experience has sufficiently shown al I. R. H. O. as in other Research Stations that the percentage of illegitimates in a population can have harmful results for future research work if the production characters of these illegitimates lead to their being chosen as parents.
