Résumé : Benin (112,600 km2, 4 million inhabitants, 30, 000 tons of fish eaten per year) suffers from the deteriorating conditions of the fish supply for its population. The development of lagunal fish breeding is one of the techniques that is currently being studied to find some solution to the problem. A project jointly financed by Benin and the European development Fund, with the technical help of the CTFT, aims at promoting intensive fish breeding in closed areas in the major lagoons of the country's southeast. This article describes the project's actions within the general context of lagunal fish breeding in West Africa and it outlines the future prospects for this activity.
