Résumé : This mission to Papua New Guinea was used to provide scientific and technical support to researchers at CCRI (Coconut & Cocoa Research Institute), and particularly to CIRAD researchers seconded to the Institute, for biometrics and IT matters. It took place at the Stewart research station, then at the Tavilo research centre. Tours of field trials and the laboratories were followed by working sessions with researchers involved in plant breeding, agronomy and farming systems, entomology and plant pathology. The main points covered were the setting up of experimental designs, trial analysis methods, statistics software and the databases required for recording results. The CDM software developed by CIRAD and designed for the management and exploitation of experimental data on tree crops was installed on several computers at the two sites and reseachers were given initial training in its use. The variety and number of problems encountered, for both biometrics and IT, revealed the need for either the recruitment or training of a specialist In these disciplines at CCRI.
