Morin Jean-Paul. 2001. Study mission in Indonesia to improve mass traping of Oryctes rhinoceros (from 6/12/2000 to 22/12/2000) : EU-INCO Project NO. IC18CT970199. Montpellier : CIRAD-CP, 16 p. N° de rapport : CP_SIC 1335
Résumé : Studies were set up to assess the efficacy of trapping in two young 1999 and 2000 plantings. The attraction of the traps will be enhanced using EFB, which lead to 2 to 3 times more captures than with pheromone alone. Two types of traps are being used in these plantings initially. In the coming months, the best trap may be used exclusively. Trap inspections and winkling should show what proportion of insects is caught and the degree of damage. A trial is planned to study insect distribution within plots with and without traps. At the same time as these observations, the search for synthetic synergist compounds will be actively continued. Field trials with mixtures prepared in Versailles are under way. Analyses of volatile compounds from EFB are also continuing, to provide other compositions, if necessary, which will be tested as soon as possible. The project is due to end on 30th September 2001 and an end-of-project seminar is to be organized at Marihat (IOPRI) in Indonesia. More detailed information will be supplied next month. The IOPRI researcher who will be coming to France will take advantage of his visit to discuss the results of the ongoing trials with us, and prepare the talks to be given at the end-of-project seminar.
