Résumé : In connection with the supervision of training for a researcher at the Indonesian Rubber Research Institute (IRRI) at Sembawa (Indonesia), holder of a grant from the French Embassy, a mission was undertaken from 8th to 17th May 2001 to assess the possibilities of setting up agronomy trials required to develop a method for detecting pesticide residues in latex and its by-products. In order to do this, latex samples need to be taken from tapped rubber plots receiving different pesticides (herbicides, fungicides, stimulant products, etc.), along with samples of latex having received various biocides for its preservation. The purpose of the mission was therefore to finalize with Sembawa researchers the protocols for a series of trials to be set up at the station, in order to obtain latex from trees growing in plots treated with different pesticides, and latex from the coagulation/centrifugation workshop in which certain biocides are used. The protocols proposed for these different studies can be found in annex 1. During the same mission, the attention of Sembawa researchers was drawn to the new directives of the European Union relative to pesticides/biocides, along with the contents of the stewardship programmes made obligatory for any bidders responding to a call for proposals relative to pesticides (products and equipment). Annex 2 provides an outline of stewardship. Lastly, there were work sessions to draw up a bid in response to the EU call for proposals under its 5th Framework Programme. Annex 3 contains the various forms to be completed by participants.
