Lescuyer Guillaume. 2002. Environmental assessment as a new tool for sustainable management ? : An application in south-Cameroon rain forest region. Wageningen : Tropenbos, 133 p. (Tropenbos Cameroon Series, 13)
Résumé : The Environmental Assessment (EA) has so far been little applied for tropical forest management. Nonetheless it is a promising approach to meet the objective of a sustainable development of these forests. A short presentation of its rationale and of the way EA can be integrated into the forest management procedure is given, and the results of a trial to implement this tool in a south-Cameroon forest region is described. The experiment was carried out at two levels: (1) for a Master Management Plan of a 167 000 ha forest; (2) for two Village Territory Management Plans. The approaches and techniques are described giving specific attention to the negotiation process with stakeholders. The main results and drawbacks of the applied methodology are evaluated and a renewed framework for further integration of EA in sustainable forest management is proposed.
