Résumé : Increasing yield and quality of rice are major concerns for Turkish rice agronomists. Besides that, economic or optimum water use is another major objective to increase or at least to maintain rice-sown areas in Turkey. At the Blacksea region, rain in the fall season makes the harvest difficult. By considering all these objectives, this study was carried out with cv ¿Rice¿ in split plot design with three replicates in 1997, 1998 and 2000 in Samsun. Draining and harvest times were placed in main and sub plots, respectively. Draining times was at flowering (WCF), 15 days after flowering (WC15) and 30 days after flowering (WF30). Harvest was done 28 (HT1), 35 (HT2), 42 (HT3), 49 (HT4) and 56 (HT5) days after flowering. WCF and WC30 gave the highest hulling (%), milling (%) and head rice(%). However, there was not significant difference among draining times for paddy yield. There was a significant interaction between draining and harvest times. We suggest that water should not be given after flowering in order to decrease water consumption in heavy soils where drainage is poor. We estimated that the earliest rice harvest could be done at HR3 stage at the Blacksea region based on yield, unfilled grain ratio, grain moisture, and head rice.
