Résumé : The association among yield components, their direct and indirect influence on grain yield of rice was investigated. Eighty breeding lines derived from 11 different cross populations in F6 generation and their parents were used in the experiment in 1995. According to the results of first year, 49 breeding lines selected, they and their parents were tested in an experiment in 1996. The phenotypic correlation among the traits and path co-efficient were estimated in both years. Grain yield was significantly correlated with its components characters like the number of panicle per squarmetter, biological yield, harvest index, and the number of filled grains per panicle in both years. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that biological yield and harvest index had the highest direct effects on the grain yield in both years. According to the magnitude of direct effects on grain yield, the order of yield components was the number of filled grain per panicle > the number of panicle per squarmetter > 1000 grain weight. The improvement in grain yield could be efficient, If the selection is based on these component characters. The biological yield, harvest index and the number of filled grains per panicle may be utilized for pure line selection in late generations, however, both high biological yield and high harvest index should be taken into account together in this selection.
