Résumé : The restructuring of Polish agriculture is certainly the greatest challenge within the perspective of the country's accession to the European Union (EU), in particular faced with the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In effect, Poland's adhesion to the EU requires a total upheaval of its agriculture. It should be borne in mind that agricultural employment still represents 20% of total employment in this country, corresponding to the overall situation of member states in 1950. The Polish countryside is overpopulated (almost 40% of the country's population is rural) and there is a serious possibility that the rural population could continue to grow until the year 2010 due to a lack of real emigration possibilities. This paper provides a short historical background that explains the collapse of restructuring of State owned farms and the new phenomenon of clustering underway since 198, taking in consideration the role of local governement.. The are, for example two success stories of rural restructuring: Tarnowo Podgorne and Kobierzye (Western Poland). Particular attention is paid to the regional aspect of rural restructuring.
