Résumé : Promoting public dialogue to enable community residents to find their collective "voice" about local food system issues in an era of rapid globalization of the world's food supply requires process-oriented educational techniques and appropriate teaching materials. These resources may not be readily available to educators and community activists. Two recent additions to the available educational resources for engaging local citizens in policy-relevant food system discussions are described. They are Edible Connections, a model for a local food system forum that involves the media and Our Food - Our Future, a made-for-television video with supporting educational materials for conducting local community food security workshops. These educational resources are available for purchase at the cost of duplication. Each set of materials includes both a VHS tape and printed materials (in English) that describe how to conduct a food system forum or workshop. Research is now underway through a two-year NESARE (Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) grant to conduct training of Cooperative Extension agents and other community educators in the use of these materials. The project will include a systematic evaluation of the public policy impact of the forums and workshops conducted.
