Résumé : At Obaretin, leaf contents in the plots switched to organic fertilization since 2000 are holding up compared to those in plots that are still receiving mineral fertilization. At Cowan, there has been a virtually general drop in leaf K contents. We propose halting fertilization in ageing plots due to be felled within 2 years. For young palms (3 to 6 years) and mature palms (over 6 years) we propose a fertilizer schedule strengthened in potassium. Reference trial PR CP 01 (KCI at 4 rates x TSP at 2 rates x kieserite at 2 rates) is showing the beginnings of a yield response to potassium fertilization, 4 years into the trial, in terms of average bunch weight, whilst leaf K contents are classed in order of increasing KCI rate, but at low levels (0.74% K for the highest rate K3). Two new trials are proposed: one for planting density, and another for land preparation (subsoiling and gypsum application).
