Résumé : This third visit in 2004 revealed that the phytosanitary situation is no longer a problem throughout the Nucleus Estate (NES). A few foci were reappearing in blocks D and G, and in the "in vitro" plots, but they have been confined and a treatment cycle is currently nearing completion. However, the Smallholders (SMH) have high indexes in numerous plots that have yet to be felled. The Outgrowers (OT) are also partly infested. For the Smallholders, a new rule has been proposed to the Estate managers to protect the environment from any massive migration of Coelaenomenodera adults. Given the current degree of infestation in the Outgrowers, the monitoring teams in the two Outgrower zones need to be strengthened by assigning two conscientious inspectors from the Nucleus Estate, equipped with two motorbikes. The young entomologist recently recruited by SIAT to manage phytosanitary matters at Kwae and in the surrounding area is very dynamic, and keen to acquire the new knowledge required for good management of the local phytosanitary problems. He will need to organize himself as best he can to be able to supervise all three sections of the large Kwae estate: NES, SMH and 0G. We can easily provide the indispensable fine-tuning of his practical training in the coming months to make him fully operational. However, we would like the technical interferences of various origins likely to contradict our monitoring standards to cease as quickly as possible.
