Résumé : For reference trial PR CP 01, the response of the oil palms to potassium fertilizer remains weak (on mean weight of bunch only) after five years of annual protocolary fertilization. Potassium fertilization has to be intensified, in order to cover the variation range of K leaf contents in both estates. We shall therefore: - Reduce planting density from 180 to 154 p/ha by removing every seventh palm (in June 2005). - Increase KCI rates. A spot of fusarium-affected palms has been detected in the trial. No other symptom has been detected in the Obaretin estate up to now. For the commercial plantations, a fertilizer schedule is proposed for 2005, which is the same as in 2004. Care must be taken to ensure that the recommended rates are actually applied at the right time (i.e. from March to September at the latest). Split applications of 500 g KCI per tree are acceptable, as long as the whole recommended rate is completed. Fertilization must be applied also on the basis of a single rate per LSU. A LSU map of both estates has to be finalized this year. Compound fertilizer 12-12-17-2 is confirmed as convenient for young palms. Blocks which receive pure organic fertilization (EFB) since year 2000 at Obaretin confirm their good nutritional status against blocks receiving mineral fertilization. A new trial, PR CP 02, is to be set up in 2005 to test different spacings between palms (planting density). Land preparation is due to start in March 2005, planting is forecast in May 2005. A special care must be given to pegging, in order to have the precise protocolary distances between palms in the field.
