Résumé : This Msc thesis describes the agrarian system around the Vietnamese city of Phan Thiêt. Using the methodology of analysis and diagnosis of agrarian systems developed by researchers at INA P-G, this involved field trips and interviews with local stakeholders, especially farmers, so as to get the relevant information on the agrarian system. The general state of agriculture in the study area is presented, a historical synthesis was done from bibliographic sources, the description of the present agrarian system and a list of the principal farming systems was elaborated . All these farming systems were characterised both in their technical and economic results. Linear economic modelling of the farming systems and their individual components was done to better understand farmers' strategies in choosing the components implemented in the farming system. Constraints to the development of the agrarian system were identified and some ideas of development actions are given which could help solve these constraints. Further
