Titre anglais : Research on territorial development in semi-arid
Résumé : The article seeks to look further into the discussion on the concept of territory, concentrating on its relationships with local development and sustainable development in northeastern semi-arid. From this perspective, the authors try to answer questions like: What are territories and why must they he privileged as objects of research programmes and public policies? What is the meaning of territorial development and in what way does this concept differ from the concept of local development? How can the reference to a territorial development approach help solve the serious problems of Brazilian society, and also consider the diversity of our territories? In conclusion, some suggestions are presented for the construction of a research programme which could bring contributions for both the conceptual reflection on territories and, at the same time, the practical experiments of territorial development in progress at Brazil.
