Titre anglais : Evaluation of the trapping technique inside the integrated coffee berry borer management

Résumé : Over a three years study period, coffee berry borer (Hypothenemus hampei) trapping trials were carried out on a coffee farm where sanitary harvest, used without real supervision, was practically the only method of control of H. hampei. During the first year, trapping in different situations and especially with and without sanitary harvest, was studied. The following year, the number of treatments was reduced and trapping associated with components of Integrated Borer Management (IBM) was compared with trapping used in habitual management conditions of the farm and with its respective control plots without trapping. The number of treatments was reduced in the final year and the experimental design was better adapted to the migrating behavior of the pest. In this stage, plots with trapping, associated to complete stripping, were compared to control plots without trapping. The effects of the sanitary harvest on the reduction of the initial residual amounts of berries were evaluated in IBM and "farm" conditions and the amounts of H. hampei captured were related to these infestation levels. Also, the evolution of the borer populations in the residual berries and the effect of the different types of controls were studied. The best control results were obtained with the combination of trapping and stripping, with a higher than 90% effectiveness. Trapping and stripping constitute a control strategy that allows to annihilate the own survival strategy of H. hampei.
