Résumé : Teak (Tectona grandis L.f) has been introduced in Togo at the beginning of the 20th century and has become the most important timber for exportation. Plantations cover approximately 12000 ha at present. Natural durability and colour, characteristics that are requested on the international timber market, have been studied in the trees of these plantations. Twelve hundred samples of 26 trees have been tested against four fungi. The results show considerable difference in the intensity of attack. Antrodia sp. and Coriolus versicolor are the fungi that have caused the major damage with losses of up to 20% of dry matter whereas 100% of the samples are classified durable to very durable against Pycnoporus sanguineus and Gloephylum trabeum. The analysis of the colour parameters show that the clarity L* is a negative factor for the natural durability of the samples. From the four fungi tested, the clarity allows one to distinguish the durability class of the sample. The relationship between the red colour a* and yellow b* parameters and durability exists but they are not sufficiently close to allow for an accurate classification. (Texte intégral)
