Titre espagnol : Poda de la Guayaba (Psidium guajava cv Beaumont): un método amistoso para anticipar la producción en Martinica
Résumé : In Martinique, the guava harvest concentrates during the months of September and October. This production peak saturates the storage and the capacities of the processing units. The aim of our work is to modify the harvest period of guava using environmental friendly agronomic practices to decongest those units and extend fruiting period. We conducted a two years trial with a guava orchard 6 years of age. Trees were pruned once a year, branches of less than 3 cm of diameter were removed. Pruning orientates the production period at the beginning of summer (May to July) when trees are pruned in the winter period (November to January). This technique is very simple to apply, it secures better profit to the producers because prices are higher at this period. Moreover, the risk of harvest loss linked to hurricane is then avoided.
