Résumé : The Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.), was grown in Chile before the Spanish arrived, by Inca and Mapuche people, being introduced from Bolivia to the region of Araucania. With the arrival of the Spanish, their cultivation and use was relegated by wheat and barley. This genetic erosion did not materialize, primarily for the great work of Mapuche women who kept seed and cultivation for several generations, in their gardens, for medicinal use, and since 1968 by seed collections made by Semillas Baer, and afterwards by Agrogen Company. This, in addition to initiatives for recovery, presentation of Quinoa cultivation in the region of Araucania, conducted by the Asociación de Municipalidades de la Precordillera of the Araucanía Region, and Cet sur. As part of this work Semillas Baer and Agrogen began a breeding program with Quinoa, with the aim of generating varieties with higher yields, higher harvest index, 1000 kernel weight, besides a greater homogeneity and quality of the product, given the higher market demands, resulting in the Regalona-B variety. This study analyzes the work done since the last 40 years.
