Résumé : In view of the economic changes in developing countries, decision-makers are reconsidering the prospects for milk production, in the face of increasing imports and local consumption. To satisfy such growing demand, it is necessary to assess the potential and the impact of the milk subsector on national development, reduce health and feeding constraints in dairy stock, improve milk production, identify the risks associated with the production, transport and processing of milk products, develop processes for improving milk product quality, adapt technologies to local situations, and model the economic performance of dairy farms and of the milk commodity channel. Such are the aims of the LAITROP group, which encompasses several CIRAD research programmes.
