Résumé : India is the second in the world on lychee production with not so far 450 000 tons, China is the first with 600 to 1 million tons. Continuing to increase it is faced with a tremendous challenge : Augmenting its production, its goal, in the short term, is to increase lychee productivity in order to meet the demands of the domestic market, and the demands o f export markets, either as fresh or as processed products. Visits to different orchards, nurseries, discussions with various participants in research, growers owners, exporters, as well as development specialists (few) in the 3 states, have shown the quality of the planting material was far from satisfactory. Many owners or nurserymen still collect the planting material outside their nursery in the easiest possible way, being concerned neither with sanitary nor with true type variety. The potential yield anticipated by the tree farmers is reduced considerably in orchards with the use of plants originating from just anywhere. This project, therefore, has the following objectives: 1 To help the nursery owners increase their yield in quantity as well in quality in order to participate in a sustainable production system. Access to improved techniques of multiplication will allow to supply "Elite" plants. 2 Increase the varieties potential by introduction of early and late varieties from overseas. Screening in existing orchards to make a selection from among the best cultivars in Bombay, Shahi, Rose Scented. 3 Promote access to, and the use of, good quality fruit trees by the growers. 4 Improve lychee cultivation by promoting production techniques and management systems of lychee trees in a sustainable manner. 5 To help regularly the lychee growers, it is necessary each AEZ will have 3 to 4 extension officer, this the angular stone for increasing lychee productivity. Identification of extension officers or NGOs. 6 Trained the extension officer in relation with Research Centre or Universities if these want to participate actively to this project. 7 Identifications of growers and growers groups 8 Setting up the demonstrationsblocks : Soils analysis, irrigation, fertiliser management, pruning, rejuvenation, IMP program 9 Packing house and post harvest management will be done properly. This project can run easily if all the recommendations are follow. I am hopefully for this.
