Evaluation of fungicide resistance in the populations of Mycosphaerella fijiensis (agent of Black Sigatoka) in the commercial banana farms of Bélize

Résumé : Fungicide resistance analyses have been conducted in 4 commercial farms (farms 4, 6, 7, 14) and an untreated area (Dangriga) for three groups of systemic fungicides (Triazoles, strobilurins and benzimidazoles) . This study has shown that no fungicide resistance occurred in the untreated area of Dangriga. The situation was diff erent in the commercial farms were high levels of resistance were found for benzimidazoles and Strobilurins. A very important decrease in sensitivity has also been shown for all triazoles, propiconazole being more affected than difenoconazole. Strobilurins and benzimidazoles have not been used after 2006-2008 according to farms, however the level of resistance has not decreased since 2006. This shows that this resistance seems quite stable. This is not the case in other contexts like Cameroon where resistance to strobilurins and benzimidazoles has decreased after they have been abandoned. These fungicides should not be used anymore. The level of sentivity to triazoles has decreased since 2006, showing that they have still been used from 2006 to 2015. Their use should be very limited (less than 2/year) either they might loose their efficiency for ever.
