Résumé : Lethal yellowing (LY) disease of palms is associated with phytoplasmas of the 16SrIV group in the Caribbean. In Guadeloupe, 'Candidatus Phytoplasma palmae' (16SrIV-A subgroup) was reported in 2021. Coconut and palm trees are used for home consumption by Guadeloupeans, for the production of 'coco water' and desserts. Moreover, they are associated with the landscape and inherent to the touristic image of the island. To eradicate lethal yellowing disease, French official services, supported by Anses for laboratory analysis, survey palm trees for the presence of the LY associated phytoplasmas were continued by systematic sampling of symptomatic palms trees through the island with a major effort at the first focus. From the first diagnostic of palm lethal yellowing disease in Sainte Anne, 556 samples in 2021 and 291 samples in 2022, mainly Cocos nucifera, were collected and analyzed. Analysis consisted in a CTAB DNA extraction from the palms' sawdust followed by a specific real-time PCR. Thirty-three trees were tested positive for "Candidatus Phytoplasma palmae" in two different areas of Grande-Terre Island. Infected trees were culled and destroyed. After analysis of one year of survey and discussions with all services and experts involved, in June 2022, official services improved the regulatory text. By this way, survey of symptoms, capture of insect vectors and destruction measures of infected trees will continue in order to pursue the aim of the disease's eradication.
