Résumé : The use of cryopreservation is interesting for the long-term storage of embryos, particularly as regards trueness to type of the plant material, and for laboratory management. Cryopreservation ensures proliferation recovery of the frozen embryoids in determined conditions and the production of directly utilizable ramets, without prerequisite tests, since their trueness to type has been checked during the setting up of the bank. Moreover, with cryopreservation, recloning, which has several drawbacks, can be avoided. Indeed, the production of embryoids during this process is uncertain and the capacity of the ramets for recloning is unknown. Moreover, it is necessary to check the trueness to type of the material before using it for large scale production. Finally, the systematic use of recloning would delay considerably the cloning programs. The program set up during the last mission has been followed: 21 clones have already been frozen. 3 clones had been thawed for more than 11 weeks, 2 for 4 weeks, 5 for 3 weeks, 11 for 2,5 weeks. We had thus the possibility to observe material at various stages after thawing. It is interesting to note that some of these clones have been stored in LN up to 2 months without any problem.
