Résumé : This mission is part of the cooperation between Opri and Irho/Cirad. Four previous missions have been undertaken in 1984, 86, 87 and 88. During each of these visits, a phytosanitary inspection was made of all the major work in Ghana on oil palm plantations and the state of progress of research and extension programmes proposed or modified during previous visits was assessed. This new mission enabled us to confirm that Coelaenomenodera is a highly significant pest in Ghana. Faced with such a pest, we had already drawn attention to the fact that it is essential: to have one or several phytosanitary monitoring teams, capable of detecting even the smallest foci, right at the start of infestation. to have supplies of well maintained equipment and insecticides in good condition, to be able to intervene as soon as possible and hence treat as small an area as possible.
