Résumé : The Government of the Republic of the Gambia commissioned the Institut de Recherches pour les Huiles et Oléagineux (IRHO) to implement the study for the development of the Groundnut processing sector in the Gambia under EDF financing. Although the main object of the study was the development of the GPMB's Groundnut Processing Sector, The Government of the Gambia was anxious for the industrial side to be integrated into a wide technical and economic context, ranging from agricultural production via storage, transport and industry up to marketing. Consequently, this study reviews the whole groundnut production and transformation circuit from the farmer to the export of finished products. The recommendations of the Plan have been followed as regards the industrial implantations, the distribution of revenue in the country and the maximum local revalorization of national products. Taking the present system of production and transformation as a basis, a number of progressive measures of different types are proposed, which should result in the long run in higher performances on the technical, economic and social planes.
