Résumé : For the sugar beet fields visited, the situation can be summarised as follows: good choice of soils and season culture suitable; farm units, very small in Northern Iraq and scattered in a too large area. Good size of fields in the state farms in the central plains; low level of fertilization for NP and nothing for K; low success in use of herbicides and mechanical sowing; nothing against weeds by way of normal cultural practices; little tentative for mechanical harvesting in the central plain, nothing in the north and no suitable organization of the mechanical transportation of the beets from farm to factory; no advanced irrigation practices and even lack of water in Soulaimaniya.
