Résumé : Nigeria is already a valuable market for foreign manufacturers of agricultural machinery. The decision to give more importance to the industrialization of this country is indeed very reasonable taking into account the availability of energy, of manpower and the scale of the national market (now or potentially). Foreign manufacturers must be aware of the fact that the industrial development of Nigeria is already under way and it is up to them to decide whether they will participate or not in this development. As far as the French industry of agricultural machinery is concerned there is no doubt that more contacts have to be taken to decide where and when an association has to be arranged either to export machines or to locally manufacture them. Some of the leading manufacturers are of the opinion that the following approach could be the best one: choice of products suitable to local needs; direct agreement between a French manufacturer and a Nigerian counterpart; a prerequisite to follow the process above – mentioned is to reach a financial agreement in relation with the needed capital investment; from a more general point of view, the French Ministry of foreign affairs together with the Ministry of industry are willing to facilitate study tours or training sessions in France for Nigerian mechanical engineers or technicians. The fellows could spend several weeks in selected agricultural machinery manufactures to familiarize themselves with the so-called French technology.
