Résumé : In 1998, a certain increase was seen in the Coelaenomemodera population levels in GOPDC's plantations, which required treatment on several hundred hectares of nucleus estate and outgrower plantings. Some of those treatments could have been avoided. On the other hand, certain outgrower plots ought to have been treated and some were very seriously infested. A reminder of earlier recommendations is given. Oryctes attacks on adult palms seem to be decreasing. Trapping trials using a pheromone are proposed. In the Obaretin replanting in Nigeria, there has been quite a severe outbreak of dry bud rot in the nursery; the disease is transmitted by Homoptera insects that live off grasses. 50% losses can be expected in around 20% of the nursery. A few cases of stem rot are to be noted at Obaretin. Ganoderma incidence seems to be low on the Cowan estate, but some precautions need to be taken when replanting.
