Résumé : The main purpose of this mission was a handover of duties between Jean-Marc Thevenin, who left the Cocoa Research Unit (CRU) in July 2004, and Péninna Deberdt, who took up the post in September 2006. It enabled Christian Cilas to discover CRU and Trinidad and to take stock of P. Deberdt's activities. It enabled us to take stock of the progress made in CFC project work, and to attend the CRU scientific seminars, the CIRAD-CRU Technical Committee meeting and the CRAC meeting. After a slightly difficult settling-in period, all the necessary conditions are now in place for P. Deberdt to proceed normally with the work for which she is responsible. This mission was used to sort out a few logistical problems, make a complete tour of the facilities with P. Deberdt and take stock of ongoing activities on site. The witches' broom pre-breeding programme is proceeding normally, though some problems are encountered with pollination. The seedlings from the first year of crosses should have been planted in 2006, but that lost time can easily be made up and does not have any impact on the advancement of the project. Some additional pollinations can be carried out in 2007, but they should not amount to a heavy work load. Work on improving or developing resistance tests must be continued. In particular, the development of a test on attached pods needs to be stepped up. That ought to be possible with P. Deberdt's presence at CRU.
