Résumé : Rool-knor nematode Meloidogyne incognita is widespread and recognized as a major pathogen of cotton (Gossypium birsutum) in producing regions of the world., This nematode has been also reported in almost all producing regions in Brazil, with race 3 being the most important. The use of genetic resistance is the most economically viable and effective method of control. However, the sources of resistance in Brazil are derived from the cultivar Auburn 56, whose resistance can be overcome by virulent M. incognita. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance or susceptibility response of 29 cultivars of cotton from the Embrapa germplasm bank to M. incognita race 3. The plants were inoculated with 5000 eggs and all the treatments were replicated 8 times and arranged in a randomized block design. The assay was evaluated three months after inoculation. Among the cultivars evaluated, Wild Mexican Jack Jones, F1 AS 0110 1 X M315, LARN 1032, M315, Auburn 56, Del Pais n° 3, Guazuncho 2, Fai Mui and Semi Aspero Huanuco wete considered resistant to the nematode, presenting Reproduction Factor < 1.0.
