Résumé : A one week intensive teaching module entitled "Risk assessment methodology for infectious disease events" was delivered in April 2012 as part of the technical support given by WHO CO to China CDC and MoH to develop a national risk assessment guideline.This training involved 15 participants which had been selected by CDC and WHO China. The teaching was based on a combination of group lecture teaching supported by case studies and group works. Participatory teaching techniques were widely used in order to stimulate experience sharing between participants and to promote collaboration between staff from several hierarchal levels. Material was covered in relation to the topics of practical skills of risk assessment by using case studies, problem-based learning exercises and simulation exercises. The teaching was delivered jointly by an expert from Cirad, the French Research Centre for Agricultural Development. Overall learning achievement of trainees was good across epidemiology related topics, and moderate for health economics. An important motivation of the attendees and a very good participation in all activities contributed to the success of the workshop. This training session will be followed by distance supervision of CDC staff responsible for 2 demonstration projects, one on dengue and the other one on plague. Conceptual framework and the qualitative analysis should be presented during the second workshop in June.
